What levelling a plot of land costs

Levelling a plot means pushing and spreading soil across the surface, not digging deep. That is why the right machine is the bulldozer, and the cost depends on how many days it works, transport and the soil that is missing or left over.

1. The bulldozer with operator

The Liebherr PR726XL bulldozer (18 t) costs RON 2,500/day excl. VAT, with operator, for one 8-hour shift. On large areas it works continuously, by pushing, several times faster than an excavator.

2. How long it takes

The number of days depends on the area, the difference in level and the type of soil. A nearly flat plot that only needs spreading is quick; one with large level differences, clay soil or roots takes longer. The minimum rental is 10 days.

3. Soil that is missing or left over

If soil is left over after levelling, it can be used on site or taken away by tipper truck. If some is missing, fill soil or ballast is brought in. These costs are not part of the machine hire and are agreed separately.

Example: bulldozer, 10 days, in Sebeș

How to keep the cost down

  • Mark the final levels before the machine arrives (stakes, surveyor).
  • Strip the topsoil and level in the same period, with the same machine.
  • Use surplus soil on site where possible instead of hauling it away.
