Which machine to use for topsoil stripping

Topsoil stripping means removing the top layer (soil with roots and organic matter) before foundations, roads or platforms. Nothing is built on this layer: it settles and rots over time.

How thick the layer is

Usually a few tens of centimetres; the exact thickness comes from the design or the geotechnical study and shows in the first passes.

What to do with the topsoil

It is good soil: keep it separately, in a pile, for the garden and green areas at the end. Any surplus can be taken away by tipper truck, at a separate cost.

In short

  • mark the area and the thickness to remove;
  • choose where the topsoil pile goes;
  • strip and level in the same period, with the same machine.
